Aloha, all!
Once again it's time for me to work on my CASE (Copy And Share with Everyone) project of the week! As is usual on Wednesday, the original of the card I made was featured in the current issue of Stampin' Success, the magazine for Stampin' Up! Demonstrators.
For awhile, I've just been looking at a picture of the project in the magazine and making something that looked something like it – but definitely a CASE of the project in question. Then a few weeks ago, I started reading more about what the designer at Stampin' Up! did to make the card. That's what I did this week. While I can't show you the exact project that I CASEd (those photos are copyrighted), I can talk about what I did that was different or the same and why.
First of all the papers, the embossing and the overall shape of the card are just as in the original. The two printed papers are from the Holiday Catalog Designer Series Paper set, Winter Frost. I cut each of them 2" wide. I put one on top of the other and cut the same notch in the end of both pieces. Then I arranged them at an angle and offset them vertically as they looked in the original and glued them together. Finally, I cut the top of the group with my Stampin' Trimmer straight across.
The card base and the embossed layer looked to me like they were Whisper White. But they were NOT! The paper is one that I rarely use called, Shimmery White. It has nice little sparkly flecks throughout, and they definitely show up better in person than in a photograph. Another feature of the card was that it was sprayed with Vanilla Shimmer Smooch Spritz. Again, this is something that I don't use a lot. As I'm not that experienced in its use, I decided just to spray the card base and embossed layer, rather than wait until I had the entire card put together to find that I would make a mess of things!
The rest of the card is where I deviated a bit. While I did use the same stamp from the Festive Flurry Stamp Set, I did not use the same color paper. I used Pool Party Cardstock and stamped it with Island Indigo Ink, just as in the original, and cut both that and some Silver Foil Sheet paper with dies from the Festive Flurry Framelits set. And, oops, I've misplaced my Faceted Vintage Buttons (I know I own some – just don't know where they are!! Do you???) So I used one of the Frosted Finishes Embellishments from the Stampin' Up! Holiday Catalog. Finally, while there was a greeting on the front of the card that had been punched with the Ticket Duo Punch, I did not have the stamp set they used (no apologies for not owning every stamp set in the catalog! I don't know where I'd put them!!!). But I did find something that worked pretty well – one of the words in a stamp from the Merry Little Christmas Stamp Set.
The best thing, as always, about a CASE is that I – AND YOU! – can make a great card just by copying something that someone else has done. It's always nice in an online posting to acknowledge the originator of the design. But my card – and yours! – will be so much easier to make without having to go through all the work that the original designer did!
Have fun as you start getting finished with all your Christmas cards. It's so much fun doing it this time of the year!
No ribbon to tie this all together! But I did add a Rhinestone Basic Jewel as a little accent, and called the card done.
