Saying “Goodbye” With an Accordion Album

May 18, 2013 by Robin

Aloha, all!

In just a few days, one of the women who has been a valuable asset to our condo association will be leaving to move back to the mainland to be with one of her daughters.  While we don't actually live in the condo we own in the building, my husband has come to know Eve very well as they are both on the Board of Directors.  We honored Eve at our annual Board of Directors Dinner, as well as at a potluck dinner held in the lounge at the condo building.

Our friend and fellow Board member, Charlie, took lots of photos during the events, and it seemed a shame just to hand the photos to Eve.  So I went back a ways and looked up the directions for making a quick Accordion Fold Album.  I had 11 photos that Charlie sent me, so I needed to make more pages than shown in the Accordion Fold Album instructions from a few years ago.  But I'm sure you can see from the instructions how easy it is to add pages.

Here is the cover of the album, including a photo of the Board of Directors (blanked out to preserve privacy).  I chose Pacific Point and Melon Mambo, along with some Whisper White background, as the colors for this album as there seemed to be a lot of blue in the photos – and Eve was wearing a Muumuu that sure looks like Melon Mambo to me!

Here is what the inside of the album looks like.  I didn't have much time between when I received copies of the photos that Charlie took and when Eve would be leaving.  So I had to make things simple.  But I did want something other than just rectangles.  Once I got the photos all lined up, I could see that the 4th largest of the framelits from the Labels Framelits Collection would fit beautifully on one of the album pages.  I sketched the framelit shape on some Whisper White card stock and printed some journaling onto the sheets of Whisper White before cutting them up and running them through the Sizzix Big Shot.  As I said, it had to be a quick job, so not everything is all lined up as perfectly as I'd like it to be.  But the Album really does look nice!

The base of the Album is Pacific Point card stock, and the mat behind each of the photos is Melon Mambo.  For a bit of extra color, I stamped two of the images from the Mixed Bunch Stamp Set, using both Pacific Point and Melon Mambo stamp pads.  For the cover of the Album, I used one of the Melon Mambo sheets from the Brights Paper Stack. (By the way, the paper stacks are all going to be changed in the new Stampin' Up! Catalog that's only about 2 weeks away from being published!  I can hardly wait to see what the new papers look like.)  For the cover, I stamped one of the Mixed Bunch stamps on a scrap of Whisper White card stock, twice using Melon Mambo and twice using Paciic Point.  I punched the Pacific Point images with the 3/4" Circle Punch and the Melon Mambo images with the 1/2" Circle Punch, then layered them up and adhered them to the top and bottom of the Labels shape.

This album is nicely tied closed with some of the Pacific Point Stiched Grosgain Ribbon (and I'm so glad this ribbon is staying around with the new catalog!).  Remember that, for this album design, you can only adhere the ribbon either to the front or to the back of the album.  It won't open up if you adhere it to both covers!

This is how I spent my Saturday afternoon (well, and photographing and editing it – with a new computer, this was a challenge as I'm having to learn the updated versions of all the programs I'm used to using!).  But I did end up having a lot of fun with this.  I hope you're having fun with whatever you're doing this weekend!

I have been stamping and paper crafting for over 30 years, and have been an Independent Stampin' Up! Demonstrator for 14 years.

My favorite part of being a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator is teaching others to enjoy crafting themselves. Not only do I conduct classes in person, I write tutorials for teaching anyone who has internet access. No matter if you're in my area in The Villages in Florida or anywhere else in the world, let me know if there's something you'd like to learn! Read More…
