A Challenge Card with an Old Friend

Aloha, all!

One of my very favorite stamp sets, and one that’s been around a long time, is Voila!  I’ve used it inumerable times to decorate bottles of wine to give as hostess gifts, and I just love using Designer Series Paper to make something other than a white cloak for the cook in the set.

Today I used two stamps from the set for a Challenge Card.  The Challenge Sketch was posted on the blog, Stamping 411

My take on the sketch uses one of the new 2009-2010 In Colors, Rich Razzleberry, along with standard colors, Garden Green, Apricot Appeal, and Whisper White.  I used the Scallop Edge Punch for the strip of Garden Green behind the Rich Razzleberry, and the Scallop Circle Punch for the piece behind the stamped image.  Finally, I added a strip of the Rich Razzleberry 1/2" Polka Dot Grosgrain Ribbon, which comes in all of the 2009-2010 In Colors.  I think that the polka dots are a nice accent for the Whisper White card stock on which the image is stamped.  On the Apricot Appeal card base, I stamped one of the images from the Itty Bitty Backgrounds set in VersaMark.

I used Stampin’ Write Markers to color in the stamped image:  Rich Razzleberry, Garden Green, Apricot Appeal, and just a teensy bit of Real Red to make the Italian style bistro table cloth.  There’s also just a touch of Creamy Caramel and Sahara Sand for the final accents.

Mmmm.  I may have to go have some wine and cheese!!

And nothing in this card is retiring this year!  If you’d like anything that’s a part of this card, you can order online any time, or just call (808.854.6145) or e-mail me, and I’ll help you place an order.

Bon Appetit!!

Dry Embossing Elegance

Aloha, all!

For last night’s Stamp Club meeting, I had been asked to show a simple example of dry embossingStampin’ Up! has lots of great brass embossing templates that coordinate wonderfully both with their stamp sets and their Designer Series Papers.

For last night’s project, I used the stamp set, Eastern Blooms, and the Classy Brass Template, Floral Frenzy, which coordinates will the stamps in the Eastern Blooms set.  I chose the Designer Series Paper bundle from the Sale-A-Bration catalog, which has a couple of designs that coordinate well with the stamps and brass template, and homed in on the Certainly Celery paper with the floral design.

As you can see in the picture on the right, I embossed the sprig of flowers on the right side of the top of the card and stamped its stamping cousin on the other side.  I also embossed a flower in each of the scallops that I punched using the Scallop Edge Punch.  While the line of flowers in the brass template doesn’t quite match the scallop edge punch (it was designed well before the scallop edge punch), it was really easy to move the brass just a bit for each emboss.  I finished the card by attached a strip of the Designer Paper on the bottom of the inside of the card and just above the scallops on the front of the card, with some Whisper White Satin Ribbon to "tie it off" nicely.

Note that I did not stamp a greeting on this card.  It’s so versatile that you can use it for just about any occasion.  I just love to write my own message on the inside of a card, and not feel obligated to follow the dictates of a stamped or printed greeting.

Now that you’ve seen quite a few of the projects that I’ve been doing for my Stamp Club, wouldn’t you like to join the next one?!  I will be starting a new Stamp Club very soon, and would love to have some new members.  It’s not just that I’d love to share previous projects with the new club members.  What I really like is that every one of you has a different idea of what you’d like to learn.  And that helps me be creative in trying to get the best project for each stamp club meeting.

Now’s the time to sign up for a club!!  Call (808.854.6145) or e-mail me for more information.  Have I mentioned that the phone number is an AT&T cell phone number?  Most of you can call that number with your cell phone at no charge!!!  So don’t hesitate to punch in (that’s the 21st century term for "dial") that number!

Happy Stamping!

Another Thanksgiving Card

Our Stamp Club meeting last week was so much fun!  The club is supposed to meet from 3:30 – 5:00 pm.  But two of my stampin’ friends didn’t end up leaving until after 6:30!  The good news was that Barbara (this month’s hostess) brought some delectable crustless mini quiches, so my wonderful husband, Harry, didn’t starve waiting for his dinner :)   Of course, the rest of us didn’t starve, either.  Yummm!!

As with the first club project, I found a design for the second project on Split Coast Stampers.  This time, my inspiration was Debra Erck, from Austin, Texas.   She used a medallion design featured in a Split Coast tutorial, using Stampin’ Up!’s new Scallop Edge Punch.(112091).  She used my absolute favorite sheet from the Autumn Vine Designer Series Paper (112995), so, of course, I had to use it, too.  I used a different stamp, but from the same stamp set, Thoroughly Thankful (107383).  Thanks, Debra, for this great idea!

If you place an online order for the any of the products used in this or yesterday’s featured card, I’ll send you detailed instructions for whichever card  you’d like!  If you have any questions, please call (808.854.6145) or e-mail me today!

Scary!

One of the new stamp sets in the 2008 Holiday Mini Catalog (a link is at the right) is, "Eat, Drink & Be Scary."  I have to have everything Halloween, so bought it at the first chance.  (It’s stock number 111764 if you’re ordering online.)  This first project that I made with it was inspired by a challenge by a member of one of my online groups.  Michelle Gray challenged us to find a project on the Joanns.com website and make our own project using Stampin’ Up! products.

This little scary guy I made with Stampin’ Up!’s wide oval punch (112082), with legs made using the scallop edge punch (112091), instructions below.  Papers include two of the designs from the Ghostly Greetings Designer Series Paper (112463) and Kiwi Kiss, Pumpkin Pie, and Basic Black card stock (111353, 105117, and 102851).  I made the eyes with the 1/2" circle punch (104390) and the mouth with the small oval punch (107304).  A couple of black brads from the vintage brads (109109) complete his beady little eyes!

Here are instructions for getting the squiggly legs using the scallop edge punch:

Card stock (CS) any length by 1/2" wide.  I used orange here so you could actually see what I’m talking about.  Black just didn’t work!

Place the CS in the scallop edge punch, lining up the bottom with the bottom of the metallic scallop marks and cut all the way across the length of your CS.  In this photo, I’ve already cut some of it–you can see the scallops facing in towards the back of the punch..

Once you have the strip cut, turn it over and place it back in the punch with the scallops facing out.  To begin, line up the rounded part of each scallop on the paper with the pointed part of the scallop design on the punch.

Then push the CS towards the back until the straight edge is just above the scallop design on the punch.  Begin punching!   When you’re finished, cut the legs to the length needed.  The legs on this little guy are about 3 inches long.

If you’d like to order any – or all! – of the products to make this project, you can call or e-mail me (I take Visa, Master Card and Discover) or to to my website to order online.

Have fun!!

Family and Community Education (FCE) Weekend at KMC

We all need a little R&R on occasion, and my FCE club is no exception.  September 5th, Puna Wahine FCE Club will retreat with other local East Hawaii FCE clubs to Volcanoes National Park for a weekend of "R&R with Pampering."  As part of the "pampering" group, I will be hosting a Greeting Card Make & Take on Saturday morning.  These are two of the cards that I have chosen for those who are interested in some relaxing paper crafting.  The cards are so simple to make, and use lots of items that are new in the 2008 Fall/Winter Idea Book and Catalog

Holiday Treasures Designer Series Paper; Scallop Edge Punch, Heartfelt Thanks Stamp Set, and Taffeta Ribbon.  Just love that Riding Hood Red with Old Olive and Chocolate Chip for a Christmas Color Combo!

Those who aren’t ready for making Christmas cards in September will have choices of other Design Series Papers and embellishments.

Don’t you wish you belonged to FCE???!!

But, of course, you don’t have to for me to bring projects like these to YOUR home!  Host a class or workshop and I’ll design something made to order for you and your guests!  Just call or e-mail me any time!
