A Bouquet for You!
Aloha, all!
What fun I had making this card to show off some great Stampin’ Up! products! I’m going to take some time this week go talk about each of the 10 different Stampin’ Up! products (not including the paper and ink!) on this wonderful little Thank You card!
For starters, two of the colors and at least one of the stamp sets are almost at the point where they will no longer be available! The lovely deep blue is Pacific Point and the red is Riding Hood Red. Both of these are "In Colors" for the 2008-2009 Stampin’ Up! year, and both will be retired at the end of June of this year. The background of the floral bouquet contains flowers and leaves from the Level 3 Hostess Set, Dream a Little. It’s a 2-Step Stampin’ Set, and I’m really going to miss it! Of course, you still have time to get one by hosting a $500 workshop before the last week of June! With that kind of a workshop, you also get to choose an extra $60 worth of products from the Idea Book and Catalog absolutely FREE!
I’ll be here most of the month of June, and would love to plan a workshop with you! Just call (808.854.6145) or e-mail me, and I’ll get started working with you to plan your own unique workshop and party for your friends!
Sweet Gift!
Aloha, all!
Yesterday I showed off the pile of Gift Pouches that I had for sale at our Family and Community Education (FCE) annual fair in Hilo, Hawaii. Today I’ll show a close up of the gift pouch and go over all the elements that make this such a cute gift idea.
The bases for all Stampin’ Up! projects are the Stampin’ Up! Designer Series Papers or their Card Stock in dozens of luscious colors. For this project, I used Riding Hood Red Patterns paper. If you look at yesterday’s post, you’ll see that there I used several different designs from the pack.
All of the flowers are Sizzix Flowers. The Daisies attached to the pouch itself are the two smaller flowers from the "Flower Daisies #2" die. The larger of the flowers is Almost Amethyst card stock, and the smaller is Riding Hood Red card stock. The button is from the Button Bouquet set of Designer Buttons. Now here is where I have a bit of a beef with Stampin’ Up! (love the company, but there are some things that bug me). The stated color of the button is Baja Breeze. But this button exactly matches the Almost Amethyst paper NOT the Baja Breeze paper. The other colors in the Designer Button set are spot on. But this one isn’t. I wish I had realized this earlier in the year as I would have loved using these buttons to accent some Almost Amethyst projects. The problem that I have with Stampin’ Up! is that, if a manufacturer produces a product that doesn’t match the color it’s supposed to, then Stampin’ Up! shouldn’t go ahead and give it that color name anyway. OK. Statement made. I’ll try my best to steer you to embellishments that really do match as the new catalog and the new colors for 2009-2010 are announced. So stay tuned for that.
Now–about the Embosslits. These little one-flower dies not only cut the flowers out but they emboss them as well. The Riding Hood Red flower is the Stampin’ Up! Flower Burst emblosslit. While some embosslits seem to have a "right" side and a "wrong" side, this one seems to me to have two "right" sides. In this project, I used the side with the concave impressions. In a project I’ll feature next week, I’ll show you the flower with the convex side up.
The Almost Amethyst embosslit in the back is the Stampin’ Up! Cherry Blossom. Both of these emblosslits are Stampin’ Up! exclusives for now, so you can only purchase them with a Stampin’ Up! order. Next week’s project will show off another Stampin’ Up! exclusive embosslit, the Stampin’ Up! Simple Flower.
The two embosslit flowers and the lollipop are attached to a separate piece of Riding Hood Red card stock cut 3" x 3", and then I inserted that into the pouch. In this way, the pouch can be reused after that lollipop disappears the way that most lollipops disappear. The Ribbon is Riding Hood Red 5/8" Striped Grosgrain Ribbon, and the tag, cut with the Small Oval Punch, is stamped with a stamp from the All Hollidays set.
What a quick and easy gift this was to make, and it was especially easy with a production line going. This would be a perfect favor for a graduation party or a shower! And you can purchase everything you need to make it is any of four dozen plus colors featured in the Stampin’ Up! Idea Book and Catalog. If you’d like a catalog, or would like to order any of these products, you can call (808.854-6145) or e-mail me. Or, as always, you can order 24/7 from my website!
A Real-Life Fairy Tale
Who knew that, today, I’d actually see Riding Hood and the Handsome Hunter right in my own craft room?! Well, here it is – a great combination if I’ve ever seen one: Stampin’ Up! colors Riding Hood Red and Handsome Hunter in a Christmas Card!
I’ve been playing with this stamp set, Sleigh Bells Ring (109483), for the last two days, and this is my favorite card so far. Marcie, one of my Stamp Club Members, bought this stamp set last year and asked if I could come up with a project to use it for December’s club meeting. She actually brought a sketch to my Craft Room yesterday, and I’ll be sharing what we did with that tomorrow.
For this card, I stamped the main image, using Versamark (102283), then embossed it with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder (109132). This color embossing powder seems to me to coordinate better with Very Vanilla accent paper than with Whisper White. So the smaller stamps are on Very Vanilla card stock, with Styled Vanilla Hodgepodge Hardware (112454) brads in the corners.
And, finally, here’s a video to show how I made the Faux Bow on the right.
Felt Flurry Trio I
I just can’t keep my hands off the Little Felt Flurries (113697). Besides the fact that they feel so soft and fluffy, they are dynamite to work with! I may have to start using my Sizzix for some felt cutting. Hmmmmm.
But before I get too distracted with what I PLAN to do, let me show you another card I’ve made with these little gems. These snowflakes are shown in the Baja Blue Color, and the Designer Series Paper is from the Holiday Happenings Bundle Level 3 Hostess set. The background paper is Riding Hood Red card stock, edged with the Scallop Edge Punch and the stamp, also in Riding Hood Red, is from the Heard from the Heart set.
Now how to make those 1-3/8" circles punched in the Designer Series Paper all line up. There are lots of ways, but this is how I do it:
- First punch three 1-1/4" circles out of scrap paper. Using the smaller punch for this part of the process will help you line up the 1-3/8" punch for the final step.
- Cut a piece of card stock the size of the paper with which you’ll be working.
- Lay the 3 punched circles out on the card stock until they are where you will want to punch them. Use a small piece of removable tape to keep each one in place.
- Trace lightly around the circles and then set them aside.
- Center each drawn circle in the opening of the 1-3/8" punch and punch each of the three circles.
That’s all there is to it! If you want to be really precise, or if you are going to be making lots of this kind of card, you can download a one-sheet set of instructions for the measurements for a reusable template.
As always, if you have any questions or if you need some help with any of my templates or tutorials, just let me know! And if you’d like to buy some supplies to make any of my projects, remember that you can order online any time of the day or night!
Further Felt Flurry Fun!
Like yesterday’s Christmas Card, today’s uses the Little Felt Flurries from Stampin’ Up!’s Holiday Mini Catalog. Today, though, I really added the embellishments big time!
For starters, I used the lovely background paper from the Ski Slope Designer Series Paper pack, accented with some Riding Hood Red card stock. On top of that, I layered some Baja Breeze 1" Double-Stitched Grosgrain Ribbon (111847) and Riding Hood Red 5/8" Striped Grosgrain Ribbon (111374).
The large medallion features several layers:
First, there is a layer made with the Sizzix Bigz Die, Scallop Circle #2 (113469), made with chipboard and Riding Hood Red card stock. I accented the scallops with a bit of Tombow Glue and Dazzling Diamonds (I am so not a glitter person–but Dazzling Diamonds has been my downfall!!!).
The next layer is not one but TWO Little Felt Flurries, again accented with the Dazzling Diamonds. Finally, there is a Riding Hood Red button from the Designer Buttons pack (112092), tied with a bit of Silver Elastic Cord (109866).
The final accent is a tag made with both the Tag Punch (105934) and Small Tag Punch (108264), with the small tag stamped with a greeting from the Level 1 Hostess Set, Best Yet, in Riding Hood Red ink.
What a CARD!!!! Once I finished this card, I wished I’d made an ornament out of the embellishments. Hmmm. I think I see a theme for next week’s blog entries!!!

A Class for the Younger Generation
My first event since returning from all my summer travels was with eight young women (seven "tweens" and one about-to-be-first-grader — sister of one of the others).
Boy, did they have a good time! (Me, too!) The project was to decorate the cover of a composition book. I had hoped to use some new materials to show off to their moms; but August 17th was just too close to August 11th (the first day to order from the new catalog) for me to get the materials on time. While I did have a good supply of the preview set of "Simply Sent Elements," there just did not seem to be enough stickers for 8 youngsters. For me, fine! For them, no.
So I tore into an unopened pack of Summer Days Simply Scrappin’ from the Spring/Summer catalog, and had a winner on my hands. I put the basic cover on the front and back of all the books ahead of time so all the kids had to do was decorate. And decorate they did!
The favorite: well, stickers, of course!! And punches. In the sample I made for them, I had a photo of my son and grandson. To help them with some ideas for adding photos to their books, I brought along a tween magazine with plenty of photos of the Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrus and other assorted current favorites. I had them in the palm of my hands when I said that I wished the Jonas Brothers had been around when I was THEIR age! A little research for this age group goes a long way.
Here is a collage of the finished projects. They all posed with their books for the hostess’s photographer husband, and I’ll be keeping a copy of that photo in my own albums. (You might notice that one of the books is covered with Riding Hood Red instead of Real Red. I was expecting only 7, and had to make a quick 8th book. All I had with me at my hostess’s home was RR Red! Can you spot the lone RR Red Book?)
And they all wrote a thank you note to me, too!
Nia is my hostess’s granddaughter. What a sweetheart! And they all were.
Oh, and the moms/grandmoms made some cards using Bella Rose and Riding Hood Red papers. Kept them out of the kids hair, and they had lots of fun, too!
So–I can do events with kids, too! If you’d like to have a party for the young people in your life, just call or e-mail me to set up a planning date.
