Oh, There’s So Much That’s New!

Aloha, all!

Today I’d like to share FOUR of the new products that you’ll be able to order in January 2010.  This Christmas Card features the brand new Scallop Trim Corner Punch (from the Occasions Mini Catalog) and the brand new Scallop Trim Border Punch from the Sale-A-Bration brochure.  I think I did a lot better on this card than I did on yesterday’s, don’t you think?  I’m learning these punches!

Now look at the card again, and you’ll see some of that gorgeous 5/8" Satin Ribbon, today using the Real Red color.  There’s a whole new line of this ribbon and does it feel yummy!  I bought some Real Red and Old Olive, and will be showing them off with Christmas cards through the rest of the month.  And that Real Red Corduroy Button in the lower left corner is also new–there will be Real Red and Pretty In Pink Corduroy buttons for all your Valentine needs this year!  Of course, I’m featuring them for Christmas this month.  THEN I’ll switch holidays.

And there are some current products in this card as well:  There’s the lovely papers from the set, Merry Moments, some Fire Circle and Ice Circle Rhinestone Brads, and the lovely greeting from the stamp set, Heard from the Heart.  The old and the new go wonderfully together!

There will be lots of Christmas cards that I’ll be sharing over the next few days and I’ll be telling you more about Sale-A-Bration, too!  So keep coming back!

Some More New and Old

Aloha, all!

I cannot believe it’s Wednesday already!!  DH and I are getting ready for a trip across the big pond next week, and there is SOOOO much to be done!

But, as always, I have to have some time in the craft room!  I made today’s greeting card in response to a challenge on one of the Yahoo groups to which I belong:  Stampin’ Up! Late Night Stampers (StampinUpLNStampers. com).  The group was formed before last year’s Stampin’ Up! convention, and has continued and grown and now even has two groups–one for Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators only.  While I belong to both, I shared this card in the open group (and yes, you can join the group, too!)  There are lots of ideas for cards floating around in that bunch of creative women (haven’t seen any men posting so far).

This card is, once again, a mix of the old and the new.  But none of the old products in this card are going to retire this year.  So you’ll still be able to purchase them for the next 12 months!

The background is one of the new Stampin’ Up! colors, Crushed Curry, and the ribbon is a matching 1/2" Polka Dot Ribbon.  The smaller strip of card stock is also a new color, Dusty Durango.  The Corduroy Buttons, however, are in one of Stampin’ Up!’s standard colors, Summer Sun.  But don’t you think they go together nicely?  The Crushed Curry is just a tad bit softer than Summer Sun, and I think that the corduroy texture of the buttons softens them up to make a pretty close match!  I’ve used two stamp sets here, again one old and one new.  The new is the "Thinking of You" stamp from the Teeny Tiny Wishes set, and the old is the butterfly from the stamp set, Dreams du Jour.

The fun part of this card was cutting the Dusty Durango strip with the Stampin’ Up! Exclusive Movers and Shapers Curly Label die.  Then I punched the butterfly (stamped on Very Vanilla in Dusty Durango ink) with the Curly Label punch.  I assembled all and placed it on a Very Vanilla card.

This is just a nice, simple card, and I think that I’m going to enjoy sending it out to someone special.  I’ll have plenty of time to write letters and notes to friends while I’m on vacation, and I’ll be packing lots of cards!

If you’d like more information about how to design and assemble a card–or even how you might go about trying to respond to a design challenge!–just call (808.854.6145) or e-mail me!

Bright Flower with a bit of Sanding

Aloha, all!

Well, now that I’ve counted products, I’m finding that there are MORE THAN 10 products in it!  Today I’m going to highlight another one of the flowers and it’s big, bright, button brad of a center!

This flower is also a Sizzix Embosslit.  The embosslit is named, appropriately enough, Flower!  This is one of three flowers in this bouquet that are "sanded" to provide a white accent in the embossed areas.  The technique is very simple and requires only one of Stampin’ Up!’s Sanding Blocks.  These are white blocks that have multiple uses, including this one.

Here is the recipe:

Materials needed:

  • Emblosslit Die
  • Designer Series Paper with a solid (or nearly solid) color on one side.  The 2008-2009 "Patterns" paper sets all have one sheet with a solid side to it.  This does NOT WORK WITH STAMPIN’ UP! CARD STOCK, as card stock is colored all the way through.  Designer Series paper has a white core, and this is what you’ll be exposing.  I used Pacific Point Patterns Paper for this project.
  • Sanding Block
  • Dotto (optional)

Instructions:

  • Cut your flower using the Designer Series Paper and the Embosslit Die.
  • Lay the cut flower with the embossed ridges facing up on a cutting surface; using a bit of Dotto helps keep it in place.
  • Lightly sand the raised areas of the embossed flower with the sanding block until the white appears.
  • Continue to sand until the flower image is complete

As simple as that!

I found with this flower that there are some areas that are just a bit too fine to get the full effect of the sanding.  So I cheated a little here and there with a bit of white gel pen.  If you look really closely,  you’ll see some of the marks made with the pen.  The areas on the other flowers are clearer and sand just beautifully

Now–about that huge yellow center to the flower!  This is one of Stampin’ Up!’s new Corduroy Buttons in the Summer Sun colorAnd this one’s a brad, too!!  This embosslit has a large hole in the center, which is just the right size for the brad prongs on the button.  And what a nice way to accent that Summer Sun Flower Burst flower next to it!

Tomorrow we finish the bouquet!

A Bouquet for You!

Aloha, all!

What fun I had making this card to show off some great Stampin’ Up! products!  I’m going to take some time this week go talk about each of the 10 different Stampin’ Up! products (not including the paper and ink!) on this wonderful little Thank You card!

For starters, two of the colors and at least one of the stamp sets are almost at the point where they will no longer be available!  The lovely deep blue is Pacific Point and the red is Riding Hood Red.  Both of these are "In Colors" for the 2008-2009 Stampin’ Up! year, and both will be retired at the end of June of this year.  The background of the floral bouquet contains flowers and leaves from the Level 3 Hostess Set, Dream a Little.  It’s a 2-Step Stampin’ Set, and I’m really going to miss it!  Of course, you still have time to get one by hosting a $500 workshop before the last week of June!  With that kind of a workshop, you also get to choose an extra $60 worth of products from the Idea Book and Catalog absolutely FREE!

I’ll be here most of the month of June, and would love to plan a workshop with  you!  Just call (808.854.6145) or e-mail me, and I’ll get started working with you to plan your own unique workshop and party for your friends!
