One Last Thanksgiving Card!

Aloha, all!

If this card seems to have a lot of the elements of yesterday’s card–well, it does!  I thought I had all my Thanksgiving cards in the mail this morning before we went off on a day trip.  Then I realized in horror (well, maybe not that bad, but still….) that I’d forgotten one very important family for whom I’d not made a card.  We arrived home late this evening, and I wondered what I should make.  I had left all my "stuff" from yesterday’s card out on my craft room table (BAAAD Robin!).  So there was all this paper and these markers and the stamp from Gobble, Gobble (yes, I had cleaned my stamp–of course, I’d do that!).

But first, I had to check my e-mail for some business things for which I was waiting.  And there in my in box was an e-mail referring to a Challenge sketch.  Ah ha!!!  There was my idea, and here is my card.  The Autumn Traditions Paper, with its colors, are the same as in yesterday’s card.  But it’s definitely its own card, and I feel confident that the family that gets this card will certainly feel that it has an original!  One thing that I did differently with this card is to punch the turkey from Gobble, Gobble, with the Scallop Circle Punch, and mat it on a 2" circle that I cut with the Circle Scissors Plus.  I’d put my Circle Scissors away a few weeks back.  But now it’s back on a table in the craft room as I’m sure I’m going to need it as I make Christmas gifts throughout the next few weeks.

As I said before, we’re having company for the Thanksgiving holiday.  So I’m thinking that I’ll need some decorations for the Holiday Table.  I’m really hoping that I’ll have time for that after our guests arrive day after tomorrow.  If so, I’ll definitely be sharing them here!  If not, well, I’ll find something else to share with you.

Have a great Thanksgiving Week!

Convention Swaps!

Aloha, all!

Long ago I decided that I was NOT going to do swaps for this convention.  For one thing, I just didn’t have that good an experience at last year’s convention with my swaps.  For another thing, I was getting ready for my Convention Late Night Stampers demonstration, and we have a new puppy (check out his blog!), and DH has not been feeling well.  So swaps were not in the picture.

BUT, I found by Saturday that I was just about caught up (well, so I thought, but more about that in a moment).  So I decided that I would, indeed, make some swaps.  Not many, you understand.  Who knew what might come up at the last minute.  But I did get my craft room cleaned up from all the stuff I’d been doing the last couple of weeks, and came up with a design.  As I mentioned last week, I just love the Hibiscus in Greenhouse Garden.  We have so many of those lovely flowering shrubs throughout our Hawaiian garden, that I knew that this stamp set would be a keeper (meaning, I will NOT get rid of it when it retires.)

So, as I write this, my swaps are not done.  But, once again, life has gotten in the way.  BUT all the adhesives are adhered, and I WILL finish these before convention opens on Wednesday.  I may be finishing them as I wait in line at Memento Mall.  But I will be swapping!  Here’s a copy of the finished card, and the condition of all the various parts.

Oh–and what I used for the swap:  Greenhouse Garden, Teeny Tiny Wishes, Sizzix Scallops #2 die, Modern Label Punch, Sizzix Stampin’ Up! Movers and Shapers Punch Windows die, Circle Scissors Plus, Regal Rose and Garden Green (well, isn’t that appropriate) card stock, and a Stampin’ Up! Sizzix Texturz plate.

Later this week, I’ll share some of the cards that I received in return from my swaps.  They will all be wonderful!

The Final Piece of the 90th Birthday Card

Aloha, all!

When I made the card for Marian’s 90th Birthday, I wanted it to be richly colorful.  So I definitely did NOT want to have the inside of the card be plain white or to add another layer of card stock.  After all, with the pop up, the card was plenty thick as it was.  But writing a note on a color such as Rich Razzleberry would have been a challenge (lots of them in the card, huh?!).  I’ve never been really successful with a lot of writing with a gel pen.

So I decided to use my computer to write a greeting for Marian, and to make two medallions on either side of the cake.  The circle shapes are a nice complement to the circular shape of the cake, too.

Both medallions are constructed the same.  The one on the left is featured here, and has the words, "Happy 90th Birthday, Marian" in a circle (Microsoft Office has a WordArt feature that makes this nice, circular text).  I cut the text (printed on Whisper White card stock), the Rich Razzleberry card stock mat, and the Razzleberry Lemonade DSP mat using the Circle Scissors PlusThe Circle Scissors Plus does such a nice job of making a mat just every so slightly larger than the layer above.  I love it!  I cut some more Rich Razzleberry card stock using the Scallop Circle Punch, and topped it off with a piece of the Razzleberry Lemonade DSP punched with the Boho Blossoms Punch.  I was careful in the placement of the Boho Blossoms Punch so that I could have a nice, medallion-type design in the center of the cut piece.

The medallion on the right side of the card says, "From Robin & Harry."

Now back to work getting ready for my trip to Salt Lake City!  Stampin’ Up! convention here I come!  I leave Monday night and arrive on Tuesday morning.  This is the same flight I took last year, and it turned out not to be too bad.  I slept well on the plane and was ready for convention check in.  I did somewhat collapse that evening, though.  So this year I’m going a day early, so should have a lot more energy on check in day Wednesday!

More Scrapbooking

Aloha, all!

As promised, here is the right page that goes with the left page in the scrapbook layout I introduced  yesterday.  This is my grandson, Quin, who had a blast at the Oregon Zoo.  I wanted him to stand in front of the Black Bear because it had the ruler markings.  But Quin wanted to stand in front of the Sun Bear, because they’re the same size.  Of course, both photos turned out well enough to make the scrapbook.

Again, I used the Circle Scissors Plus, and this time I double-matted the photo with Chocolate Chip and Baja Breeze Card Stock.  In this case, the bear was real, though thankfully behind glass.  And that cute, cute Bear from the stamp set, Under the Stars, adds even more fun to this page.

Now I have to go get packing for yet another trip across the ocean.  Come to think of it, my destination fits right in with this theme:  It’s a place called Bear Lake in Northern Minnesota.  Hmmm, think I’ll get to use this stamp set there??  Believe me, it’s packed.

In fact, I’m packing lots of my Stampin’ Up! supplies just in case of rainy days.  Our little granddaughters will be there, and grandma is going to try to get them hooked on stamping at a very young age!   Yes, you call me a "pusher"

A Bit of Scrapbooking Fun

Aloha, all!

I spent most of last weekend putting together a scrapbook of photos I took when I visited my son and grandson, son’s significant other and her son.  We had two wonderful days out and about in Portland, Oregon.  On a Saturday we visited the Oregon Zoo, which is a delightful place to spend a day.  Then on Sunday we visited the Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden.  I couldn’t imagine trying to please an 8 year old and a 6 year old – both boys! – at a flower garden.  Wrong!!  This garden has lakes and ponds, and the lake and ponds have ducks and geese.  The first order of the day was to buy a very large bag of goose and duck food (of course).  Believe me, no one was bored!

I thought I’d share a couple of the scrapbook pages with you.  The scrapbook uses Stampin’ Up! products exclusively throughout.  For awhile I thought I was going to have to use non-Stampin’ Up! alphabet stickers.  But then I found some Avery Label sticker paper, and used one of the Sizzlit Alphabets that Stampin’ Up! offers in its catalog to make my own stickers.  When I priced things out, I definitely saved a lot of $$$ (not counting the Sizzix die because I’ve used that a lot already for other things).

This is the left page of a two-page spread.  I had the most fun using the Circle Scissors Plus on most of the pages in this scrapbook.  I could adjust it to just fit the image I wanted to cut, then adjust it slightly larger to make the mat behind the photo.  Most of the papers here are all papers that are going to be retiring at the end of this month.  The Baja Breeze was just the perfect color for this set of photos, and went well with the Kraft card stock, punched with the Photo Corners Punch, as an accent.

The printed papers are from the retiring set of Designer Papers, Parisian Breeze.  The stamp is from the set, Under the Stars, and another stamp from that set is on the right page (which I’ll share tomorrow)

The sticker letters are from the Sizzlit Naturally Serif Alphabet die.  It’s a long strip die with all the letters of the alphabet–upper and lower case–on one strip.  It was very, very easy to cut the sticker paper with it, and all the letters separated from their backing with just a bit of a push from the tip of a straight pin.  It’s just the perfect alphabet set for this size scrapbook page (8-1/2" x 11").

Are YOU ready to do some scrapbooking?  Beginning this fall, I’ll be offering Scrapbooking Classes in my Craft Room. Let me know if you’d be interested.

Now Back to Crafting!

Aloha, all!

Now after all that cleaning and tossing of clutter, I can get back to my crafting!!!

While I have quite a few of the new products from the soon-to-be-released 2009-2010 Stampin’ Up! Idea Book and Catalog, today I’m focusing on a set–one of my favorites!–that’s in the Occasions Mini Catalog, which still has a couple of weeks to go before it’s history.  The stamp set that I used here is called, Soft Summer.  You may recall that I used it once before and wondered why a set with a spring flower such as Dogwood would be in a set with the name of "summer."  Now only that, I had forgotten what a real Dogwood looked like, being here in Hawaii where there aren’t any.

On my trip to the mainland last month, I found myself on a walk with my son in Portland, Oregon, and there were Dogwoods all around!  I snapped a few shots, and feature one of those pictures here, along with the Dogwood Stamp from Soft Summer.  The color of the Dogwood almost perfectly matched Stampin’ Up! cardstock in the color, Regal Rose

But the first thing I had to do was to figure out how to use the photograph.  I finally settled on using the Circle Scissors Plus to cut the photograph and then two circle mats behind it.  The Circle Scissors is GREAT!!

Soft Summer is a two-step stampin’ set, and I used Regal Rose on the under color, along with Garden Green for the leaves and stems.  Then I used Handsome Hunter (almost said Forest Foliage–showing how long I’ve been using Stampin’ Up! products!) and Rose Red for the outline stamp.  I also used Rose Red for the "Thanks" stamp.  THAT is a sneak peek at a new hostess set, Kind and Caring Thoughts, in the 2009-2010 catalog!

The final touch is a bit of the lovely 1" Rose Red Grosgrain Ribbon.  I’m so glad that this ribbon will be continued in the new catalog!  I haven’t used it nearly enough!

If you haven’t placed an order from the Occasions Mini Catalog yet, or there’s something else that you really want from that catalog, there’s only two more weeks to do it!   So call (808.854.6145) or e-mail me if you’d like to place an order–of if you have any questions about any of the products in the mini.  I’ve bought most of the products (except for the Easter stamp sets) so can probably answer any questions that you have.

Later this week, I’ll be showing off some more of the Sneak Peeks at our newest catalog!!

It’s Easter Seasion – Part II

Aloha, all!

Once I got started on Easter cards with the swap that I showed off here on Monday, I just couldn’t stop.  I had to go find out what else I had in the way of Easter stamps that I could use for greeting cards.

Sock Monkey to the rescue!!  OF COURSE SOCK MONKEY would show up!  I  had decided at the beginning of the Stampin’ Up! year in August 2008 that I would send a Sock Monkey to my grandchildren through this year.  Easter is no exception.  That Sock Monkey Accessories stamp set has just the CUTEST BUNNY EARS!

But this all started up at the same time that I finally received my very own personal set of the Circle Scissors Plus and Glass Mat.  OK, how do I do the Sock Monkey and the Circle Scissors Plus fit together?  Well, by putting that Monkey in a Circle, of course!!  What I did here was cut the stamped image out with the Circle Scissors.  Then I cut a small strip of a circle with which to outline the image, and then I mounted all on one of the Stampin’ Up! Carousel Notes.  He’s finished off with some of the Designer Series Paper from "Walk In the Park" which will be features in the Occasions Mini Catalog which will debut on April 1, 2009.

Do those circles make everything pop or what!?  Want a demonstration?  Just call (808.854.6145) or e-mail me (robin@robinscraftroom.com) and we’ll get something set up right away!!

A Template for the Circle Scissors

Aloha, all!

I read Patty Bennett’s blog this week about how she created templates for the Circle Scissors Plus that Stampin’ Up! is now offering as an accessory.  I finally received mine from Hilo’s best FedEx guy this week, and I have been SOOOO anxious to play with it.  But there it sat, with its accompanying glass mat, just daring me to open it and try it out!  So reading Patty’s blog made me want to get it out of its box and do something–SOMETHING–with it!

So my first try to was make the templates that Patty had made.  What Patty did was to make circles of various sizes in pieces of card stock.  Have a picture you want to cut in a circle?  Try the card stock circle holes to see which one worked!  Absolutely the greatest idea!!

My first step was to find several pieces of card stock that I figured I might not use any time soon.  My choice was Tangerine Tango.  Not because I don’t like this color; but because I’m not seeing much in the way of Tangerine in my near future.  And this "In Color" will disappear with the next catalog (rats!) and I have a bunch of it.

With the first piece of card stock, I realized I would need, not several, but only ONE piece of cardstock to achieve my goal.  Because once I cut that 6" circle, I wondered why I couldn’t just ratchet the circle size down and cut a 5-1/2" circle inside the 6" circle; then a 5" circle inside that; and so on down until I got to the point where Stampin’ Up! has punches sized to make the circle.

This is what I ended up making:  8 concentric circles with the outside 1/2" larger than the inside. I stopped once I got to 2" because Stampin’ Up! has a 1-3/4" circle punch, so no need for the Circle Scissors for that.

What you can do with these circles is lay them over a photograph or stamped image–or anything that you might want to cut out–to figure out what size circle you should be cutting.  The two measurements that are on each circle are the outside size then the inside size.

And how do I store them?  Easy!  I have a walll decorated with Decor Elements flowers and several push pins stuck in in various places.  In this section, I have several of the Brass Templates for dry embossing.  I just added a push pin, and there now hang my Circle Scissors templates, too!

Finally, I have to say that I just LOVE my Circle Scissors Plus, and I haven’t even tried out the Plus (drawing) side!  It only took me a few times of cutting to realize that I didn’t need to PRESS on the card stock. This tool just effortlessly cuts circles.

Would you like to know more about this great new Stampin’ Up! tool?  Just call (808.854.6145) or e-mail (robin@robinscraftroom.com) me and I’ll answer any questions you might have!

Happy stamping–and cutting!!
