Sizzix Stampin’ Up! Punch Windows Take 2
Aloha, all!
I shared these cards with you back around the 4th of July–which is why they seem to have a 4th of July theme! But I’m also entered them in the Marketing Resource Center booth at the Stampin’ Up! convention this week. One of the challenges was to show creative use of the Sizzix Stampin’ Up! Movers and Shapers dies. The card above used two of the Movers and Shapers Punch Windows shapes–the Star shape and the Modern Label shape. Then, through the windows, I attached layered stars, using the Star Punch and the Large Star Punch to set off the larger Movers and Shapers windows. I’ll let you know when I get back in town whether any of my items ended up being shown off as part of the display.
The second card uses the other halves of the Real Red and Brilliant Blue card stock rectangles that I’d cut on the diagonal. This time, I punched just one star with the Sizzix die, and then added a bit of interest with coordinating Crushed Curry 1/2" Polka Dot Grosgrain Ribbon. Both cards have the word "Celebrate" from the Fundamental Phrases Stamp Set, stamped and then punched with the Modern Label Punch. Then I punched a backing mat using the Sizzix Movers and Shapers die of the same shape. Both cards are also embellilshed with some Rhinestone Brads from the Fire Circle Brads set. These were really fun to make!
On My Way to Salt Lake City!
Aloha, all!
Today’s the day I leave for the Stampin’ Up! Convention. I’m really looking forward to this trip as this year I have some inkling of what will be going on. Last year I was a bit nervous since I’d never been to this kind of convention. I’d been to large craft group conventions, but never something of this size. When I used to travel to "Spirit of Cross Stitch" conventions back east back years ago (another lifetime?!) there would be hundred of crazy stitchers. In Salt Lake, there are THOUSANDS of crazy Stampers! The other part of this convention is that a good percentage of us are Stamping Business Owners. Back in the days of cross stitch conventions, we were all "just" hobbyists.
Part of the convention this year is the opportunity for us demonstrators to share projects with some specific guidelines with the Marketing Resource Center booth. The projects just might be displayed at convention! I can’t pass up that opportunity.
The category I’ve been focusing on this past week is that showing off the Sizzix Movers and Shapers Dies. I’d already done some of these cards back during the Fourth of July season (I’ll re-share those with you later). But I wanted something new, and tried out the idea yesterday. This is a very simple card, but it shows off one of the techniques you can use with the Movers and Shapers dies–cutting one over the other.
To get this effect, I placed the Heart shape from the Stampin’ Up Punch Windows set towards one side of the card front and ran the card stock through the Sizzix Big Shot. Then I repositioned the Heart shape and ran the card through again, being sure to line up the edges of the card so they wouldn’t get cut again.
For the inside of the card, I punched hearts, using the Full Heart Punch, from two different sheets from the Razzleberry Lemonade Designer Series Paper. Note that, when I punch on DSP I try to see if there’s a pattern I can create with the punch. So it wasn’t an accident that the flower in the lighter color punched heart is pretty well centered, wtih the other accents forming a symetrical pattern.
I lined them up with the windows I’d punched in the front of the card. In the center of each heart is a Square Ice Rhinestone brad (yup, I bought them when they were on sale! I clipped the "wings" of the brads and affixed them to the DSP with mini glue dots (I had to stack two in order to make them adhere securely).
The card stock for the card is Melon Mambo, with some Rich Razzleberry 1/2" Polka Dot Grosgrain Ribbon. The "Best Wishes" is from the Level 2 Hostess set, Kind and Carying Thoughts. It’s a great set, and all you have to do is have a $300 workshop to qualify to get this stamp set for FREE!
On the inside of the card, I layered yet another sheet of the Razzleberry Lemonade DSP before I adhered the hearts through the window. The greeting on the inside is also from the set, Kind and Caring Thoughts.
Now I’m going to try to "kick it up a notch!" with a bit of fussiness. If it works, I’ll share it with you later this week.
Another Challenge Card – With More New “Stuff”!
Aloha, all!
In an effort to keep myself awake (hey, it’s a 5-hour difference between Hawaii and Minnesota–and Minnesota time says it’s almost bedtime as I write this!), I’ve done some more digging into my box of new Stampin’ Up! products.
And, as I’m still somewhat brain dead from all the traveling, I’m letting the Stamping 411 gals lead me to yet another take on this week’s challenge. It’s also my first try at a birthday card for my DS, who will have his first 39th birthday this coming week (as DH just said, "Unbelievable!"). So maybe I’ll have to try something with a "39" in it for this year’s card, huh?
OK–the new products. Some I’ve already shown you, including the new Sizzix Stampin’ Up! Punch Windows Movers and Shapers die. This time, I’ve used the scallop oval, and I just punched the top two layers, so that the back layer–one of the new In Colors, Soft Suede–shows through. The top layer is a sheet from one of this year’s Designer Series Papers, Thoroughly Modern. At first I was taken by the floral designs in this pack of paper. But I can see that the stripes are also going to be a favorite. I’m really happy to know that I’ll have this set of papers available for a whole year! I can already see some holidays designs with it. Hmmm.
The ribbon is the new 1/2" Polka Dot Grosgrain Ribbon in another of the new In Colors, Bermuda Bay. The Scallop Oval Punch insert uses card stock in the Bermuda Bay color, and I stamped the Happy Birthday greeting from the stamp set, Voila (yes, you’ve seen that a bunch here lately!) using Soft Suede Ink. The other colors in the DSP are Rose Red and Sahara Sand. I may have to get out some Rose Red Ribbon and play with this a bit more this week. Stay tuned!
Now that I’m all unpacked, I’m more than ready to help you start to think about what you’d like to order from the new Stampin’ Up! catalog! If you’re in East Hawaii, I’ll be calling you this week to try to set up a fun get together to play in the craft room. If you’re NOT in East Hawaii, I can still help you with your decision-making as you go through the new Idea Book and Catalog! Just call (808.854.6145) or e-mail me, and we’ll have a virtual get together!
Celebrate!
Aloha, all!
Of course I have to have a few Independence Day cards for you this week! There’s been so much else going on, but I couldn’t forget the 4th of July.
One reason is that I bought the new Sizzix Stampin’ Up! Movers and Shapers Punch Windows die to show it off as soon as the new catalog was ready! And one of the dies is a star.
Let me tell you how this set of dies works.
- First, you have to have a basic Movers and Shapers frame with which to work. You can purchase that with the Stampin’ Up! Exclusive Die, Movers and Shapers Curly Label.
- Each of the small pieces in the Punch Windows dies, as well as the curly label piece in the Movers and Shapers Curly Label, is just a little bit larger than an associated Stampin’ Up! Punch!
- The punches that coordinate with these five pieces are: Curly Label, Scallop Oval, Modern Label, Full Heart, and Large Star. Actually, the Star punch is an added bonus, as I’m showing in this card.
- When you use the Movers and Shapers dies to make a window/aperture in the front of a card, you can place a piece punched with one of the punches on the INSIDE of your card neatly centered in the window/aperture created by the Movers and Shapers dies.
With this card, I cut a diagonal on both Real Red and Brilliant Blue, and adhered them together on a card made of Whisper White card stock. Then I put this card front through the Movers and Shapers die with the star cut into the diagonal. I punched a Whisper White star and adhered that to the inside of the card, centered on the star made from the Sizzix die. Finally, I punched a Crushed Curry Star to place in the middle of the Whisper White Star, finished it off with the Circle Rhinestone Brad and a bit of 1/2" Polka Dot Grosgrain Ribbon in Crushed Curry. There are two small Red Circle Rhinestone brads on the "Celebrate" tag made with the Modern Label Punch. Oh, and the mat for the Modern Label punch was also made with the Movers and Shapers Die--I placed the Modern Label die piece in the Movers and Shapers base with just a small piece of Brilliant Blue card stock, and ran it through my Sizzix Big Shot. Presto–mat for the label!
I really hope that’s not too confusing!! But I do a really good job of making projects such as this seem just as simple, well, as Apple Pie (isn’t that a summer picnic staple?). Just call (808.854.6145) or e-mail me, and I’ll go through it with you step by step!
Some More New and Old
Aloha, all!
I cannot believe it’s Wednesday already!! DH and I are getting ready for a trip across the big pond next week, and there is SOOOO much to be done!
But, as always, I have to have some time in the craft room! I made today’s greeting card in response to a challenge on one of the Yahoo groups to which I belong: Stampin’ Up! Late Night Stampers (StampinUpLNStampers. com). The group was formed before last year’s Stampin’ Up! convention, and has continued and grown and now even has two groups–one for Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators only. While I belong to both, I shared this card in the open group (and yes, you can join the group, too!) There are lots of ideas for cards floating around in that bunch of creative women (haven’t seen any men posting so far).
This card is, once again, a mix of the old and the new. But none of the old products in this card are going to retire this year. So you’ll still be able to purchase them for the next 12 months!
The background is one of the new Stampin’ Up! colors, Crushed Curry, and the ribbon is a matching 1/2" Polka Dot Ribbon. The smaller strip of card stock is also a new color, Dusty Durango. The Corduroy Buttons, however, are in one of Stampin’ Up!’s standard colors, Summer Sun. But don’t you think they go together nicely? The Crushed Curry is just a tad bit softer than Summer Sun, and I think that the corduroy texture of the buttons softens them up to make a pretty close match! I’ve used two stamp sets here, again one old and one new. The new is the "Thinking of You" stamp from the Teeny Tiny Wishes set, and the old is the butterfly from the stamp set, Dreams du Jour.
The fun part of this card was cutting the Dusty Durango strip with the Stampin’ Up! Exclusive Movers and Shapers Curly Label die. Then I punched the butterfly (stamped on Very Vanilla in Dusty Durango ink) with the Curly Label punch. I assembled all and placed it on a Very Vanilla card.
This is just a nice, simple card, and I think that I’m going to enjoy sending it out to someone special. I’ll have plenty of time to write letters and notes to friends while I’m on vacation, and I’ll be packing lots of cards!
If you’d like more information about how to design and assemble a card–or even how you might go about trying to respond to a design challenge!–just call (808.854.6145) or e-mail me!
There are Stamps…And There are Stamps!
Aloha, all!
Ever since I first saw the new 44 cent Love Stamps, I have been eager to try them out with the Stampin’ Up! stamp set, Card Games.
THEN, when I saw the new In Colors for 2009-2010, I really couldn’t wait to see what I could do with them. This is my first try at making them work together. While I may try some more to get a better design, at least this got the whole idea out of my system–for now…
The In Colors that I used you’ll be seeing in the new catalog starting July 1st. The orange color is Dusty Durango, and the yellow color is Crushed Curry. The ribbon is a new Polka Dot 1/2" grosgrain ribbon that will be available in all 6 of the new In Colors–no other colors, sorry! But there will be a 3/4" Polka Dot Grosgrain Ribbon in Real Red. Ooooh, start thinking Christmas!! And then there’s Valentine’s Day.
But I digress. The background color for all of this is Whisper White, and the saying is from the stamp set, "Simply Said," which is one of my favorite sets that will be continued in the 2009-2010 Idea Book and Catalog.
So herewith another Sneak Peek at the new catalog!!!
For those of you in East Hawaii who would like to SEE the new catalog, I’m having a "play date" in Robin’s Craft Room (newly decluttered and cleaned, I might add!) on Saturday, June 20th. So bring your stamp sets and other Stampin’ Up! toys and come play with some of the new In Colors! I’ll have them all ready for you to use in your own projects for the day. Just call to let me know you’re coming! (808.854.6145).
