It's time for the new challenge over at the Stampin' Up! Only Challenge blog! This time we changed it up a bit and just picked a theme out of the air. Or, in the air, actually. It's "Things That Fly" this time around, and flying was immediately on my mind when I had the time set aside to make my card for this week's challenge.
For me, it was flying as in all the airline reservations I've had to make for another of our marathon trips to the United States Mainland next month. There are 8 airplanes on this card, and you'd think that would be enough. But, no. We have to take 12 planes to get to all the places on our itinerary this time around. I was going to try to get all 12 on a card, but I couldn't figure out the design. I had a circle in my head – because we're starting and returning to the same place – home! And this card is large enough (5" x 7") that I didn't want to go large enough for those 12 planes.
First about the card. Graduation time is coming up, and I'm sure to need a graduation card this year. What a great sentiment to someone who's starting a new part of his or her life – "The Sky's the Limit"! And, of course, the finishing touch with the "Huge Congrats" stamp. All three of these stamps come from different Stampin' Up! Stamp set, all of which are currently available on the Stampin' Up! website.
- The plane stamp is in a set that is on the Clearance Rack at Stampin' Up! for a lot less than the $13.95 I paid for it a couple of years ago. The stamp set is called, "Greetings From," and is not only a great set for scrapbooking, but it has wonderful little elements that are great on cards – such as this cute little plane. Get it while it lasts!
- The "Sky's the Limit" stamp is from the "Over the Rainbow" stamp set, which is in Stampin' Up!'s annual catalog, and is still very much available.
- The "Huge CONGRATS" stamp is from a set called, "Watercolor Wishes," and that's only available as part of an all-inclusive kit called (amazingly) Watercolor Wishes.
I chose the colors for the planes before I went about figuring out what I was going to use as cardstock and Designer Series Papers. That's why the Daffodil Delight planes look a bit different. I originally made those planes another color. But then, when I went to find paper, I fell in love with the idea of the striped sheet from the Party Animal Designer Series Paper from the Stampin' Up! 2017 Occasions Catalog. The quickest way for me to "fix" my project was just to stamp the plane outlines on Daffodil Delight, cut them out, and glue them over the color that was on there. And, yes, I considered doing that for all the planes; but, no, I didn't want to spend any more time fussy cutting.
As for my travel next month, all of our plane reservations are made. And so far, 4 of the flight time departures and/or arrivals have changed. One of them involves a change with gives us less than an hour between flights in Atlanta, and one for a similarly short time in Minneapolis. Yikes, those are big airports!!! I guess I should wear good walking (running?) shoes!
More about my travels later on this month. For now, here are the stamp sets, paper and tools I used for this card. Just click on any of the photos to go directly to my Stampin' Up! store to find out more about them – and even to order them, which would be a really good thing, especially for that stamp set on the clearance rack!
