Aloha, all!
It's once again time for a Stampin' Up! Only Challenge, and this time the theme is to "Welcome Spring." Spring will be here (for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere) next Sunday, just in time for Easter. I love the Stampin' Up! Sale-a-bration Stamp Set, Honeycomb Happiness, and that cute little chick has just the right attitude to welcome spring!
The original design for this card was one I made for a class I'm teaching this week. The class is comprised of a variety of Easter Cards, and I'd already used lots of Subtles papers and colors in the other projects. So I wanted a deifferent set of colors. Also, in looking at projects on the internet using the chick, the only coloring that looked good to me was either watercoloring or coloring with Copic Markers. Both of those were out of the question as the ladies coming to my class are more in the beginning stage of coloring large areas, and, as the project had to be Stampin' Up! only, Copic Markers were out of the question for this particular project.
That left me with the idea to stamp the image on some yellow Designer Series Paper (DSP). And that took me to one of my favorite paper sets in this year's Stampin' Up! catalog, the Cherry on Top DSP Stack. The yellow in this set is Crushed Curry, and then there were all those other papers that I could use to provide accent colors. I originally put a White Doily in where the flower is. But it just seemed a bit too delicate to go with those bright colors. So I went to my stash of Framelits and Thinlits, and the large flower from the Flower Fair Framelits looked like it would be perfect – and I think it is!
The sentiment is from the Circle of Spring stamp set. I had that set out on my work table as we're using the wreath and Happy Easter stamp from that set for another class project. Oh, and the Washi Tape and the Ribbon – the Washi Tape is the Cherry on Top Designer Washi Tape, that goes oh so well with the Cherry on Top DSP. The ribbon is the Bermuda Bay 1/8" Stitched Ribbon from the Stampin' Up! 2016 Occasions Catalog. Wow, I've got all three of Stampin' Up!'s current catalogs covered in this project!
I hope you'll take the opportunity over the next week or so to make your own card about Spring and enter it in the SUO Challenge. Just click on this link, and you'll be whisked over to the blog to check it out!
