Aloha, all!
If you've looked through the brand new 2015-2016 Stampin' Up! Catalog, you've probably noticed that there are new Designer Series Paper (DSP) stacks for each of the color families in the catalog. The one that interested me most was the Neutrals Color Collection DSP Stack because not only are the neutrals colors (excluding Whisper White and Very Vanilla) included, Gold and Silver Papers are also included! So nice to have something other than the foil and vellum sheets with which to work for a gold accent. So here's my second Gold card in a row.
I thought of using the striped paper in this set for this card because it's time for the latest SUO Challenge. The current challenge is Stars and Stripes. I really wanted to get away from the USA Red, White and Blue colors – there's plenty of time for Fourth of July projects! So I decided on the Gold Striped paper from the Neutrals set. In choosing an accent color, I picked out Night of Navy just because that's what I felt like picking – I'm allowed!
For the stars and sentiment, I went to my tried and true Stampin' Up! Stamp Set, "Be the Star." I always think of my oldest grandson when I pick up this set. It just looks like a set to use for a card for a teenager. In fact I used this very set the last time I made a card for him, and it was also for one of the SUO Challenges. Hmmm, it had stars and stripes, too. Wonder if I could have recycled it – no, of course not. I know the rules!
To embellish this card a bit, I ran the striped background paper through the Lucky Stars Sizzix Textured Impression Embossing Folder, and added some Night of Navy Seam Binding Ribbon and a couple of Night of Navy Candy Dots from the Regals Collection Candy Dots.
Now I think I'll send this off to Quin "just because." We get to go see him in his latest play later in the month, and he'll definitely be one of the stars. Cool kid.
I'm sure you have some ideas about how to use Stars and Stripes in a project – Independence Day or not! Be sure to share them with us over at the SUO Challenges Blog – starting today, June 9th!
