Happy :) and Sad :(
Aloha, all!
I have two good friends who live in East Hawai'i who have decided to move back to the mainland. They both have everything in place. One will be moving while I'm away for the Stampin' Up! Convention and a family vacation next month. The other will not move until the end of the summer. I am so happy for both of them that they are able to do what they want to do. Yet I'm very sad for me because I'm going to miss them so much.
What I'm trying to do is to look at this whole experience as something new! It will be new for me as I will (eventually) have a new next door neighbor, and I will be working with a new president of a club to which the other friend and I belong, and of which she is now the president.

And it just so happens that the Late Night Stampers Yahoo Group design challenge for this week is, "New Beginnings." What better way to help my friends celebrate their new beginnings that creating a card for them to use to announce their new addresses! I have to tell you that, even though there's tons of new stamps in the new Stampin' Up! catalog, this oldie-but-goodie set is one of my favorites – and so versatile! There are two sets of accessories for the basic stamp set, which has lots of accessories of their own.
The basic stamp set is Loads of Love, and the pickup truck itself is in that set. The truckload full of furniture, the woman in the driver's seat, and the "just moved" greeting are in the set, Loads of Love Accessories. So cute, and just perfect for today's card!
At the time that I was making this card, I did not have any designer series paper that I really felt was right for the background for this card. So I just took the "just moved" stamp and, using both the Bashful Blue and Calypso Coral colors, stamped all over the front of the basic card. Then I added the various layered elements. To give this whole card a bit more of the rustic look that goes with a pickup truck, I sponged the edges of the card itself and several of the layers with some Bashful Blue ink. The paper that I used for the card and the stamped layer is Confetti White, and that adds nicely to the rustic look.
The punches that I used for the circular element are the 1-1/4" Circle Punch for the stamped layer and the 1-3/8" Circle Punch for the Calypso Coral layer. They are both layered on the 1-3/4" Scallop Circle Punch. My final touch for this card are the Silver Flower Brads that serve as the hubcaps for the pickup. Darling!
Here is the sketch for this week's post. If you read the post for NEXT Monday, you're going to see a similar sketch. As I'm preparing for my next eBook that features all new sketches, I'm going to include measurements for this card layout for a number of stamp sets, including quite a few holiday designs. More about that later this summer!

Goodbye to My Favorite Stars!
Aloha, all!
And, no, I'm not talking about movie or TV stars – I'm talking about my Stampin' Up! Star Punch and my Stampin' Around Wheel, Classic Stars. I have really relied on them for my Fourth of July cards and decorations and I'm so very sorry to see them retiring. As you know, my preference is to share only Stampin' Up! products that are in a current catalog; so I'll not be sharing these with you any more. Sigh.

But I'm sure glad to be sharing them with you today – and I would be remiss in not reminding you that you can still order these as long as you do it by 11:30 pm Mountain Time this coming Thursday, June 30th. You can order them online until the last minute, too!
The Stampin' Around wheels are so easy to use on a greeting card this size. Just ink up the wheel by spinning and rolling the wheel on a Classic Stampin' Pad and then roll it along the paper you want stamped. So quick and easy! And the Star Punch makes a perfect layer for the largest of the stars on the wheeled image as you can see here.
The colors that I used for this Red, White and Blue Card are Real Red, Whisper White, and Night of Navy. I also tied this card together with a piece of Real Red 5/8" Grosgrain Ribbon which is also retiring at the end of the month!. Not only is the Real Red 5/8" Grosgrain Ribbon retiring – ALL THE 5/8" Grosgrain Ribbon is retiring! I'm probably one of many Stampin' Up! Demonstrators and customers who found themselves using the 5/8" Satin Ribbon more than the grosgrain ribbon, so it's probably my fault along with that of many others who've ignored the grosgrain ribbon. But that's that, at least for now.
The final accents on this card are the Gold Brads and the Brushed Gold Card Stock that I used for the smaller star layered over the Night of Navy Star at the top of the card. I punched the Brushed Gold Star using the Sizzix Stars #2 die – it's the second smallest of the four stars on that die. I think that the gold accents give the card a bit of the military look that we frequently see in Fourth of July parades across the country. Nice touch if I say so myself!
One feature of this card that you may not be able to see all that well in this photo (and I tried several others, too) are the embossed stars on the Night of Navy background layer. I punched several small stars using the Sizzix Stars #2 die and some chipboard. Then I layered the chipboard just as I would any other texturizing shape and ran it through the Sizzix Big Shot. It looks (and feels) especially nice in person!
Here's the sketch for today's card! I hope you enjoy it, and have fun making some Fourth of July – or any summer style – cards with it!

Floral Delight
Aloha, all!
Today was a busy day, but I still had some time for paper crafting. Of course I had to use some of my free time to play with some of the products that you're going to see in the Stampin' Up! 2011 Summer Mini Catalog that will be open for everyone on May 1, 2011.

So where to start? With the gorgeous Designer Series Paper Set, Beyond the Garden? With the sentiment from the Stamp Set, Fabulous Florets? Or with the Sizzix Embossing Folder, Flower Garden? Don't they all go together beautifully?!
This is the second time I've shown off the stamp set and the embossing folder. And I'll certainly be using them a LOT during the late spring and summer months this year. But I can't believe that this pack of paper has been sitting around my Craft Room for a week and I haven't used it yet! I'm sure that you're like me in that, with any pack of Designer Series Paper, there are designs that thrill me and those that, well, just sit there and don't call out to me at all. In the case of this pack of paper, one of the latter sheets is the one that showed through the clear packaging when it arrived on my doorstep. Nothing about that sheet shouted out, "Open Me Now!" Now if THIS sheet had been on top, that paper would have been spread all over the craft room and on the front of several cards almost instantly. Now that I've finally opened the pack, you can be sure you'll be seeing more of it over the next few weeks.
The embossing folder is another story. I couldn't wait to open that up and use it. This time I used it on the right side of my "portrait" oriented card, and the first time I used it I put it on the left side of my "landscape" card. It really is very flexible as long as you're using it on a cut sheet of paper and not on a whole card base. So when you get this folder don't feel that you're locked into one place to use it.
The colors in this card are Daffodil Delight and Pacific Point, both of which are among the colors featured in the Designer Paper. The other colors that you can see in this sheet are Wild Wasabi and Tangerine Tango. Melon Mambo is included in the set, and is actually on this sheet of paper, though the way I cut the paper there is no Mambo showing in it. Maybe next time.
Meanwhile, you might want to try out today's sketch even if you don't yet have all the materials that I used in this exact card. After all, sketches are meant to inspire you to use what you already have, and they're certainly not meant to be followed exactly. But you can if you'd like! Whatever you do, whether you use this sketch or another or make up your own design, be sure to have fun with it!

Garage Sale Finds
Aloha, all!
I mentioned that last week I participated in a fund-raiser garage sale for my Family & Community Education (FCE) group. I knew that, as soon as that was over, I'd have time to get back into my craft room. And I could tell I was focusing on that as I kept seeing things for sale that gave me crafting ideas. Take this little floral frame, for example.
Of course those little ceramic roses on the frame reminded me of the Stampin' Up! Rosettes and Vintage Flower Adornments that are in the 2011 Occasions Mini Catalog. And I do have a bunch (pun intended) of them still hanging around as we get close to the end of the catalog sales period. While I hope that you might consider buying some, as a demonstrator I'll have to clear out my stash to make room for new products from the 2011 Summer Mini Catalog.
Once I got home and started going through my supplies, I found that I had used up a lot of what I had purchased on various personal and class projects. But I still had enough of a variety to create today's card.
.jpg)
To make the frame, I cut an oval out of a Medium Window Sheet with the Sizzix Ovals Die, added some sticky strip all around the edges, and then placed the flowers on the sticky strip. Once I had my frame made, I had to decide what to put in it. I started going through some family photos, but resizing and editing one of those was going to take some time, and I was anxious to see what the finished card would look like. Then I remembered yet another Occasions Mini Catalog product, the Easter Blossoms Stamp Set. And of course once that little girl's silhouette was in the frame, my creative brain jumped to the sheets of the Springtime Vintage Designer Series Paper that I still have left!
To decorate a bit more, I added some leaves punched with the Two-Step Bird Punch, layered up some Baja Breeze, Pear Pizzazz and Always Artichoke Card Stock, texturized the Baja Breeze Layer with the Sizzix Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder, added some Scallop Punched accents, and I was done! Oh, and the greeting: The "Happy Easter" greeting is from the Stamp Set, Teeny Tiny Wishes.
The best part of making this card came while I was out on my lanai (porch) taking the photographs and my husband came out and said, "Wow, what a great card!"
So I'm having a happy day! I hope you're able to get some crafting done and that someone close to you compliments your work, too! And don't forget that you've got limited time to buy all these beautiful products from the 2011 Occasions Mini Catalog. If you'd like me to help you out with some ideas, just give me a call (808.965.1391) or send me an e-mail!
And here's the sketch for today's card. For the Designer Series Paper layer, I just used a 5-1/4" wide x 2-1/2" h piece of Designer Series Paper and overlaid two 3/4" strips of card stock punched with the Scallop Edge Punch. I offset the whole set of decorative layers up a bit to leave room for the greeting at the bottom.

If it’s April is it Easter Yet?
Aloha,all!
Very few people have been impressed with my research about how late Easter is this year (see my last post) and some have suggested that I stick to stamping (none of you, though; those people would be in my family!). So stick to stamping I shall!

I almost didn't post this card today because I'd promised cutesy later in the month. But even this little bunny, from the Stamp Set, Forest Friends, while cute still has a bit of "pretty" in her. Oh, yes, my Easter Bunnies are all ladies! I just try to imagine any of the men in my life "hopping down the bunny trail" and my brain shouts, "No!"
So here is my little lady and a greeting from the Stamp Set, All Holidays, stamped in Perfect Plum, layered with some Old Olive and some more perfect plum. I adhered this group to a layer of Blushing Bride prints from the Designer Series Paper Stack that is a hostess gift this year. I haven't used this nearly enough, and I'm leaving the pack out on my work table to see if I can't start pulling some papers out of it to show you how lovely it is. The card front is also layered on Perfect Plum, with a card base of Old Olive.
I've also not been using my 1-1/4" Striped Grosgrain Ribbon enough, either. My ribbons are always out on my work table, so I'm not sure what the excuse is for that. Maybe their size just intimidates me? The Old Olive Striped Ribbon I've used here certainly doesn't overwhelm this card, though my initial thought was that it would. To "tie" the bow, I used Mary Brown's bow instructions, with one of the Whisper White 5/8" Jumbo Designer Brads to hold it together. I tried a couple of different ways to decorate that brad, but ended up simply stamping the butterfly image from the Stamp Set, Itty Bitty Bits and punched it out using one of the punches from the Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack. I then adhered it to the brad using a Mini Glue Dot.
This feels like a nice and airy card that I'll be happy to send off as an Easter Greeting this year! It felt good to make it, too, which means I'm probably recovering from whatever bug has been keeping me down a bit this week. Nothing serious, just a few aches and pains and wanting to sleep all the time. It's a good thing as my monthly paper crafting class is tomorrow and I've got to get ready!
I hope you're ready for a relaxing weekend and will have some fun stamping – maybe even getting some of those Easter cards made!
Here's the sketch for today's card.

I So Needed a New Idea…
Aloha, all!
I've been away from home for nearly three weeks, and it's great to be back where all my craft supplies are waiting for me.
But when I went to my work table, I realized that I really needed something totally new for a card layout. Oh, yes, I still love my layers and layouts, but I needed to exercise my brain a bit and try something different.
To the rescue came a photo from a Gump's San Francisco catalog that I'd been leafing through at my friend, Janet's, home earlier in the week. I'd torn it out thinking that it reminded me of the flower spray in Stampin' Up!'s Easter Blossoms Stamp Set. I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it, but I'd stuck it in my bag anyway. At the time, I didn't actually think of copying the whole layout; but that's what I ended up doing!

The ad was for some rugs, but I just wasn't in the mood for all those dark colors. It's Spring, after all (finally!). Once again something came to my rescue, and this time it was a color challenge from the group, Late Night Stampers, of whose Design Team I'm a member. The color challenge was Early Espresso, Certainly Celery, Blushing Bride and SoSaffron. OK – I was off and running!
Or was I? If I layered all those card stock layers, I was going to end up with a very, very thick card. Counting the basic card itself (which you can't see in this photo), there was going to be a point where there were going to be SIX card stock layers, and that didn't even count the thickness of the Hodgepodge Hardware Frame. But now that I was thoroughly enchanted with the layout, I really needed to figure out how to do this. And of course I did – using my Stampin' Up! Fiskars Paper Cutter. That paper cutter doesn't get a lot of use in Robin's Craft Room, but I always keep it at the ready for projects such as this.
What I did was to cut out the corners of the Certainly Celery and Blushing Bride layers, and simply slid the Blushing Bride layer into the cut corner of the Certainly Celery card stock, and the So Saffron layer into the corner of the Blushing Bride card stock. To keep them in place, I taped them together on the back with some transparent tape. Here's the layout for that exercise:
.jpg)
After that, I really WAS off and running! Once I got the layout figured out, I cut my pieces and stamped them before nesting them up into the single layer that resulted from the nesting exercise. I colored in each set of blossoms with the green, yellow and pink shades, added some 1/8" Early Espresso Taffeta Ribbon to cover up the cut edges, added the greeting and Hodgepodge Hardware, attaching it with Certainly Celery and So Saffron Brads. I mounted the whole layer onto a 4-1/4" x 5-1/2" piece of Early Espresso Card Stock, then onto a Blushing Bride Card base. Nice card! I think I'll send it off as a Thank You gift for one of the ladies who was a hostess during my long mainland trip!
Here's a challenge for you for the weekend: Look at all those spring clothing and decorating ads and see if there's not one that you think could be the layout for a card. Then have some fun trying it out! It's really a very satisfying exercise.
And finally here's the whole layout. Maybe with Designer Series Paper it could be done without the nesting. Hmmmm. Maybe tomorrow?

An Early Spring Challenge!
Aloha, all!
Have you recovered from the "Spring Forward" time change of the past weekend? Here in Hawaii it's not something about which I have to worry – except everyone I know on the U. S. Mainland had their time changed, so I have to adjust to that. And I do mean that I have to! I have 5 clocks that I need to change twice a year! I'm probably the only one within miles that has to change so many clocks when Daylight Savings Time comes and goes! Here's what I see above the doorway to our office every day:
So I definitely am aware of when the time changes. Behind every clock there is a scrap page that shows something about the time zone and the particular place within that time zone where we're likely to have an interest.
But I digress from the challenge of the day! A stamping group to which I belong – Late Night Stampers and not limited to Stampin' Up! demonstrators, I might add; so you're eligible to participate! – has a weekly challenge, and the challenge this week was to made a card or other paper-crafting project related to Spring. A few weeks ago I finally broke down and bought the Build a Blossom Stamp set and the coordinating Blossom Petal Punch. I say, "broke down," because there were so many other products in the 2011 Occasions Mini Catalog that I've wanted to buy. This was way on down my list – and I finally got to that part of my list!

While I've not had this set of products in my own possession, I nonetheless have been watching what people have been doing with it. So I knew what steps I wanted to take for my first try.
- First I stamped some Whisper White paper with the solid medium size petal stamp using Pretty in Pink classic ink.
- Then, using the Stamp-a-ma-jig stamp positioner, I stamped over those stamped images with Melon Mambo. So now I had a two-color flower petal.
- I punched these petals using the Blossoms Petals Punch.
- I repeated this process with the smaller petal stamps, again using Pretty in Pink and Melon Mambo.
- I punched a 1" circle out of card stock (I used Whisper White, but any color will do as it will be hidden) and covered it in SNAIL mono adhesive.
- I then applied the tip of each of the large petals to the circle.
- When that was done, I used my paper piercer and curled the petals slightly to make them appear more natural.
- I applied some snail adhesive to the center of the circled petals and then applied the small petals the same as the larger petals.
- I used my paper piercer to punch a hole in the middle and used one of the Sweet Stitches Fabric Designer Brads for the flower's center.
Once my flower was done, I had to decide what to do with it – it couldn't just sit there on my craft table, after all! At the same time that I'd ordered these new products, I'd also ordered the First Edition Specialty Designer Series Paper, also from the Occasions Mini Catalog. I have a recollection of having wrapped flower bouquest in newspaper from my younger years, and that paper seemed just the thing to wrap a bouquet with this flower! So I added some leaves to the flower, and trimmed a few pieces of Old Olive Card stock to look like stems and wrapped the whole thing together into a bouquet. Just darling if I say so my self.
To complete the card, I made a card base of Old Olive Card Stock and layered it up with a piece of paper from the 2011 Sale-A-Bration Catalog – part of a set of FREE DESIGNER SERIES PAPER offered this year to anyone who purchases $50 worth of Stampin' Up! products! Is that a deal, or what?! Then I tied it all together with a bow made of Pretty in Pink 3/8" Taffeta Ribbon. A darling bouquet for a Thank You note!
Don't forget that Sale-A-Bration is over in just two weeks! If you've been thinking about purchasing something that would allow you to get your free products, don't delay! You can call or e-mail me, or even order online anytime 24/7! www.RobinStamps.StampinUp.net! If you order the Build A Blossom Stamp set (either in wood (121923) or clear mount (121994)), the Blossom Petals Punch (121808), the 1" Circle Punch (119868), the Sweet Stitches Fabric Designer Brads (121880) and some Snail Adhesive (104332), you'll have more than enough to get that free paper set – or a stamp set or anything else in the Sale-A-Bration Catalog!
And you definitely can have a lot of fun with all those wonderful Stampin' Up! products!
Cute for a Baby Shower!
Aloha, all!
No babies around our families these days! But I had an online challenge this week to make something that was for or about children. And, since I have declared this a week of using stamp sets and papers that have been neglected in the Craft Room, I went for the Stamp Set, Fun and Fast Notes. This really is a great set, even though it's pretty old!

I wanted to make this card so that it wasn't specifically for a boy or girl baby. With no babies in my family or circle of friends at the moment, so who knows when I'll get to use it!? The background paper is one of the sheets from the Designer Series Paper set, Nursery Suite. It's a specialty paper because two of the designs in the paper set have scalloped edges. I have a card in the making that I'll be sharing before long that uses a piece of one of those sheets, and I've shared a couple before, too. But scallops and bunnies are the themes for this paper set. This sheet is Pear Pizzazz in color, and has bunnies with Baja Breeze colored bows. There's also a sheet that's So Saffron with bunnies with Regal Rose colored bows. To carry this whole color scheme into the card, I used Baja Breeze, Regal Rose and So Saffron to color the baby carriages. The scalloped strip on the bottom of the stamped layer is from a Quick Accents pack of Self-Adhesive Die Cuts (aka "stickers) that coordinates with the paper set.
Tip of the Day: The little strip of color on the top is also from the Quick Accents set of stickers. BUT it's not one of the actual featured designs. Instead, it's one of the "scrap" pieces between two different designs. How much fun is that to use scrap paper to accent your card!?
I've layered up the card with Regal Rose as the bottom layer and then some So Saffron before the Designer Series Paper layer. Each of the little carriages has a bow made of Whisper White 1/8" Taffeta Ribbon.
Here is the sketch for this design. If you're making this layout and don't have a scalloped edge die cut to use, you can just use the Stampin' Up! Scallop Edge Border Punch. I've noted in the sketch the size of the paper I would have used BEFORE I punched it. You lose a little bit of the edge of the paper when you use one of the border punches, though not much at all with this punch. If you're going to try to copy this exact card, you should cut the stamped layer just a bit shorter. Of course, there's no rule that says you have to use any particular measurements! But some people do like to use exact measurements, and I aim to please (well, I'm kind of one of those people myself
)

I hope you have some stamping or crafting time today! Make sure you have fun with it and definitely don't stress over measurements.
Free As A Bird!
Aloha, all!
All kinds of new stamp sets around these days that include bird cages. What's with that when what we frequently want is to be "free as a bird"? Well, as my good friend, Janet, would tell you, it's hard to have a bird as a pet unless there's a cage involved. And the little critters do make good pets and chirp away happily when their humans are around, as does her little friend, Ike.
Nonetheless, the phrase, "Free As A Bird," comes to mind when I think of finishing up a period in my life that has had me tied down (caged?) for a long time. In the case of today's card, I'm thinking of school. Yes, I loved to learn when I was in school. But almost from the very beginning I could hardly wait to get out and get on with life. The little gal in the middle is standing tall and finally free from the class schedules and assignments and is ready for what comes next! Congratulations to her for getting through it!

I do have a good friend, Helen, who has just finished a long set of classes and I was thinking of her when I made this card, which is made with the color scheme from a recent challenge. Today's colors were Blushing Bride, Early Espresso and Rose Red (all Stampin' Up! colors, of course). The stamp set is Stampin' Up!'s Aviary, and is a delight to use, especially when I have my Stamp-a-ma-jig available.
As I'm sitting here writing this at my home in Hawaii, the birds are outside signing up a storm. I wish I had a digital recorder available to capture the happy sounds for you. If you watch my latest video showing how to make the Never-Ending Card you'll hear a bit of what I hear in the background. Maybe tomorrow morning I'll make another video when the birds are in full chirp!
Meanwhile, I hope you'll have some fun crafting today! Try out these colors on a project of your own and share it with all of us!
So Lucky I Live Hawaii!
Aloha, all!
And, no, I didn't leave out a word in that blog post title! People around where I live talk all the time about how fortunate we are to "live Hawaii," not live IN Hawaii! But whether I live Hawaii or live in Hawaii, where I live brought me to today's stamp design.

One of the online groups to which I belong – the LNStampers – has a challenge every week. While I love to look at what everyone does with these challenges, this week's just perfectly met my need to get back into my craft room after several days away from home. The challenge was to make a card that represents the place where I live! Of course my craft room, being in Hawaii, looks out over luscious gardens. My husband has a spectacular garden – people take tours of it rather than spend $$$ to go to commercial gardens! – and the thought of making a card to reflect what I see from my craft room was very appealing!
The Stampin' Up! stamp set featured in this card is called Greenhouse Garden. No greenhouse on our property – but lots of garden, and lots of hibiscus, along with other flowers and palms and vireyas, and – well too numerous to mention. To construct this card, I decided I wanted some floral texture to the background layer. I immediately thought of the Island Floral Sizzix Die. I cut several of the smaller 5-petal flowers from that die and glued them together. Then I ran the Peach Parfait card stock through the Sizzix Big Shot with the stacked flowers acting as a texture plate – my own homemade texture plate! Then, rather than just use a plain old Garden Green brad, I decided I might as well carry the floral theme through and use the Flower Brads instead.
To stamp the flowers from the Greenhouse Garden Stamp Set is a 2-Step Stampin' operation. You first stamp the solid background (in the light color – Peach Parfait) and then stamp the darker lines using the darker color (in this case, Poppy Parade). I've found that, with this set, you really do need the Stamp-a-ma-jig to line up the second stamp with the first. I also used the Stamp-a-ma-jig to place the stems from the same set. I stamped and cut out another of the Hibiscus style flowers, as well as the smaller flower, again from the Greenhouse Garden set. I carried the Garden Green color from the stem onto the mats for both the smaller layered unit as well as the larger card front. The finish accent is some of the Poppy Parade 1/2" Stitched-Poly Ribbon featured in the Stampin' Up! catalog.

Here are some recent photos of some of the flowers blooming right now in our garden. The hibiscus was my theme for this card, but I just had to show off a Vireya (upper right) and one of our orchids (bottom right).
Here's the sketch for today's card, complete with the measurements that I used. Don't forget that all my blog posts from 2010 that included layout sketches (all WITH measurements!) are in my 2010 Card Layout eBook that is now for sale! For more information, click on the link at the top of the column to the right. It's really a fun book – I use it myself all the time (go figure).

Maybe you can use this to make a card that shows off where YOU live! Join in the fun, but certainly have fun with whatever you do!!
