A Sizzix Banner for my FCE Club

Aloha, all!

I’ve posted before about projects that I’ve done for my Family and Community Education (FCE) club here in East Hawaii.  We are one of several clubs in our Council, and enjoy social activities throughout the year, all of which somehow promote raising funds to support the charitable work of the club and its members.

One event this year was our annual "Friendship Tea."  Each club chose a country or culture and brought samples of foods related to that.  We chose Mexico, which is fairly easy to do foodwise, even if it’s more United States southwestern than really Mexican.

Decorating was a bit harder, though we found quite a few of us had salsa bowls.  My contribution was, as always, from my Craft Room.  For this party, I made a banner with the Sizzix Bigz XL Die, Stampin’ Up! Pennant, and the Sizzix Bigz Die, Serif Essentials Alphabet.  I even made good use of the Scallop Circles in the Stampin’ Up! Pennant Die at the tip of each Real Red pennant, with a copy of the Mexican seal added to it.

The colors for this were Real Red and Garden Green, along with some Whisper White, which seemed best to match the Mexican Flag.  I used the same colors in the little place cards on the table that explained what each food item was.

I’m sure there will be lots more opportunities to use these dies in the future!  And there are going to be LOTS OF NEW DIES in the 2009-2010 Stampin’ Up! catalog–many of them exclusive to Stampin’ Up!–that will be coming out soon!  I’ll have my catalog in my hot little hands by June 9th.  So come on over to see what’s in store!  Or call me (808.854.6145) if you have any questions about what’s in the catalog that might interest you!

Happy Birthday, Harry!

Aloha, all!

Yesterday, June 3rd, was my husband’s birthday.  While we had already celebrated with a trip to Moloka’i, Hawaii, in March (for both our birthdays), I still took him to lunch and a local garden, and had a few gifts I’d picked up on the mainland for him.

BUT I CAN’T BELIEVE I FORGOT TO MAKE HIM A CARD!!!!  I think my brain is still mush from that long trip through Oregon to Maryland and back.  But I made a card before I gave him his gifts.  So wall was not lost.

The perfect card set for me to use, given that he’s now manager of our local Duplicate Bridge Club, was Card Games.  This is the first time I used this set, and I think I’ll be using it more now that I’ve figured out how to make some colors work.  There will have to be some more color combinations, because the coordinating Designer Series Paper (Jackpot) has more Very Vanilla in it than Whisper White, which is the color I think of as being on the front of playing cards.

To make the cards stand out, after stamped them in Real Red and  colored them in (with Summer Sun, Tempting Turquoise, and Green Galore), I covered them with Versamark and then clear Stampin’ Emboss Powder, which I heat embossed to make the cards shine.  The added touch of some Real Red 1/4" Grosgrain Ribbon, and a birthday greeting from On Your Birthday.

The good news is that none of these stamp sets or accessories is on this year’s Last Chance List!  But there are plenty of other things that are.  Be sure to go over the list (buttons for Stamp Sets and Decor Elements are at the right) and let me know if there’s anything you’d like to order–before it’s too late!

A 1940 Memory Book – Part II

Aloha, all!

Now that the excitement (at least in Robin’s Craft Room) about the Stampin’ Up! "Last Chance" lists having been published, it’s time to get back to an old project and let you know what I did with it.

Back in April, I told you about having found my mother’s Memory Book from her High School graduation in 1940.  Since then, I’ve been working on and off on it, sometimes for days at a time.  It took me awhile to figure out what exactly I was going to do about pulling it apart and then putting it back together.  I decided at some point that the "new" version of the book would be a gift to my niece, Margie – my mother’s only granddaughter -  on the occasion of her graduation from a graduate program at Johns Hopkins University last month.

While I didn’t get all the embellishing done that I’d like to have done, I nonetheless finished the book in time to take it to the graduation.  I wrote up a summary of what I did with the book, and thought I’d share it with you.  You can click here for the summary, which also contains a link to a YouTube slide show of the pages in the "new" Memory Book.

And of course I used all Stampin’ Up! products for the project!

Now back to figuring out what to do with all the "retired" Stampin’ Up! stuff in the craft room!  For sure I’m going to have a sale–probably at my New Catalog Open House in July!
