Quin Makes an Ornament

Aloha, all!

While my 8-year-old grandson, Quin, was visiting from the mainland for Thanksgiving, he learned how to use the Sizzix Big Shot from Stampin’ Up!  We started with the ornament that I featured in yesterday’s blog post.  After that, he could hardly wait to get his hands on the Big Shot again!  I had some snowflakes lying on my display table, and those intrigued him the most.

Quin definitely wanted to make a Snowflake ornament (using the Sizzix Originals Die Snowflake #2-113461).  He was quite certain that he wanted one big snowflake with little ones at the ends of each of the spikes of the large snowflake. After a bit of coaxing, he agreed that three little snowflakes (made with the Sizzlits Snowflakes Set #2-113449) were sufficient.  He went through all my Stampin’ Up! cardstock, and picked Brilliant Blue as the color for his large snowflake and Whisper White for the smaller flakes.  We also decided to make the blue snowflake a big sturdier by using some of that wonderful light cardboard packed with Stampin’ Up!’s Designer Series Paper.  Finally, we picked Friday afternoon as the time for the ornament crafting project!

Earlier in the day on Friday, Grandpa Harry took Quin out into our back garden to cut down a couple of Norfolk Pines for this year’s Christmas trees.  Grandma Robin couldn’t resist making a video out of part of the tree-cutting event.  Once Quin saw that video, he decided that we were going to make a video so he could demonstrate how to make HIS ornament.

Tomorrow I’ll share the video with you.  He just loves that Sizzix!  I do, too, of course, and would love to have you try one out!  If you have kids or grandkids, I highly recommend it for hours of crafting fun!

A Special Gift Ornament

Aloha, all!

This Thanksgiving weekend has been a great one for our family!  Grandson, Quin, and his dad, Gus, visited us from Portland, Oregon.  One of the first things that had to be done was to have an ornament made as a gift to a friend who was taking in their mail while they were gone.

Quin wanted an ornament that was a "Christmas Tree with Gifts Underneath it," and he had to be involved in making it.  I thought and thought and finally came up with the idea to use some of the Sizzix Big Shot dies to accomplish the task.

We used the small Pennant die and the letter "J" from the Serif Essentials Alphabet to make this ornament for Joanna.  We added some gift boxes made from Designer Series Paper and cut with the 1-1/8" square punch, with some paper "ribbons" to match, and we had our ornament!!

Quin is very proud of his ornament, as well he should be!  He dictated the use of the Sizzix and the Designer Series Paper (and its use as package ribbons!) to perfection.

Just wait until tomorrow and the next day when I tell you what he had me doing with the Sizzix!!

Don’t forget–this is the weekend for the Big Stampin’ Up! Extravaganzi Sale!  I have already received (via my great FedEx Guy) my order from the sale.  Don’t wait until the last minute–things are running out fast!.  Check with me online to order the best of the remaining bundles!

A Sizzix Snowflake Video

Welcome to the first post-Thanksgiving Day post from Robin’s Craft Room!  I hope that you had a wonderful day with friends and family, and are now really ready to spend lots of time on Christmas and other Holiday cards and gifts!  I know I am.  Our son and grandson are here for the holiday from Oregon, and you can be sure there will be pictures taken and posted here!  Of course, there will be Stampin’ Up! projects involved!

One of the items in Robin’s Craft Room that I’m sure our grandson will love is my Sizzix Big Shot!  And I’m equally sure he’ll want to crank out some of those Fluffy Felt Flakes that I showed off here earlier this week.  (OK–hint preview!!  There will be a video with Grandson, Quintin, coming up early in the next week!  We had a blast!!!)

While I’ll be able to provide Quin with a personal, hands-on demonstration, I’m not able to do that for my all my Craft Room readers (though some of you will be here for my club or classes next month, I’m sure!)

To help the rest of you out with this, I’ve made another instructional video called (who’d have guessed), "Fluffy Felt Flakes."

If watching this makes you want to have your own Stampin’ Up! Big Shot, you can have one as easy as going online and ordering right now!  That’s right–you can order online any time of the day or night!   Just click on the "Shop Now" button in the upper right corner, and enter the item number 113481 for the Special Edition Starter Kit featured in the Holiday Mini Catalog.  To add the Snowflake to your shopping cart, enter item number 113460

And don’t forget to choose your Stampin’ Rewards!  You’ll probably have purchased enough to get a Level 1 Hostess Set for Free!  I’d like to suggest the pack of 6" square Designer Series Paper (no, unfortunately this isn’t the kind that comes with that wonderfully thin cardboard!) so you can get started with your Sizzix right away!  Then you’ll have at least $20 of free merchandise to add to your cart.  Some card stock to go with the papers would be a great choice!  If you need help choosing, you can always call (808.854.6145) or e-mail me for assistance!

Thankful Thoughts

"At this time of counting blessings, you always come to mind."

I think that this is one of the best sayings that Stampin’ Up! has ever captured in one of its wonderful rubber stamps.  When the stamp set, Thoroughly Thankful, first appeared in a catalog, I just had to have the set.  And this particular stamp is the one I’ve used most.  I’ve put it everywhere!  On the front of cards, on the inside of cards, on tags, and on boxes.  And now it’s here on the Robin’s Craft Room blog!

I hope that, this year, you and your friends and family have the best ever season of being thankful–for each other!

A Special Thanks to Stampin’ Up! for this great card design, too!  It’s on page 30 of the 2008 Fall/Winter Idea Book and Catalog.  And this card was a great "idea"!

A Fluffy Felt Flake!

Aloha, all!

I have been having a blast working with the Sizzix Big Shot this week!

As you might remember from last week, I played around with the Country Living Holiday Collection Stampin’ Kit and its die cut chipboard ornaments.  Yes, they are wonderful!  But playing with them made me want to go play with my very own Sizzix Big Shot machine and the fun "Originals" die, Snowflake #2 (which has the Stampin’ Up! order number 113460).

And play I did!!!  Just check out this fluffy felt snowflake on the diagonal double pocket card.

More about the Diagonal Double Pocket Card later.  For now, just check out that felt snowflake.  Yes, "Little Felt Flurries" are wonderful!  But Big Shot Felt Flakes are even MORE WONDERFUL!

I had fun making this diecut Snowflake, and you can, too!  All you have to do is buy the Sizzix Big Shot through Stampin’ Up!,(a great bundle product through the Holiday Mini Catalog–# 113481)  and add in the Snowflake #2 die (113460).

Stay tuned to Robin’s Craft Room for a video showing how I made this very Fluffy Felt Flake!

Snowflakes Everywhere!

Aloha, all!

Well, not much here in Hawai’i!  But there are snowflakes all over Robin’s Craft Room today!  Here’s just a small sample.

And guess what?!  They don’t melt!

The Green and Red snowflakes were made with the die-cut chipboard and Designer Series Paper featured in the Country Living Holiday Collection Stampin’ Kit, currently on sale through Stampin’ Up!  (Item #114447 if you’re ordering online).

I made the white snowflakes using Sizzix Dies, the large one with the Snowflake #2 die (113460) and the four smaller ones with the Sizzlits Snowflakes Set #2 (113449).  Yes, you get FOUR snowflakes in that set!

Last week I featured a video on how to put together the Holiday Collection Stampin Kit snowflakes.  I’ve been asked why I use the Everywhere Glue Stick rather than Tombow Adhesive.  I find that, with all the little pieces sticking out all over the place, adhesive is definitely going to end up on my hands.  (You, of course, may be a lot neater than the inhabitant of Robin’s Craft Room; but she tends to be a bit on the childish side when she’s working with paper and glue!)

In any case, I find it much easier to wipe the glue from the glue stick off my hands right then and there.  When I manage to get Tombow adhesive on my fingers, I have to go find a sink and soap and water.  I’d rather spend time in the Craft Room!

Later on this week, I’m going to demonstrate some more of the snowflakes that I’ve made with the Sizzix, and show how I’ve used them in projects for my upcoming Stamp Club meeting!

‘Til then–Stay Warm!!!

More Christmas Ornament Fun!

Aloha, all!

Throughout December I’ll be featuring classes and workshops featuring handmade Christmas ornaments and gifts.  Of course, I’ll be working on Christmas cards (and the occasional greeting and gift for Hanukkah).  But with economic times as they are this year, I’m really looking forward to the opportunity to show everyone how to make the most of Stampin’ Up!’s products and promotions to make beautiful, thoughtful, gifts for everyone on our lists!

One class that will be lots of fun features Stampin’ Up!’s Star Bright Kit (113681), and will take place the evening of Wednesday, December 10th.  To make sure that I have enough kits for everyone who wishes to participate, I’ll need registrations by November 30th.  The class fee of $30, which includes the entire kit, must be made with your registration.  Click here to download the class flyer!

If you can’t make it to Pahoa, Hawaii, for the class, you can still order the Star Bright Kit, which is featured in Stampin’ Up!’s 2008 Holiday Mini Catalog.  Here are some of the ornaments that can be made from the kit, photograph compliments of Stampin’ Up!.

The kit features twelve 12" x 12" sheets of die-cut Designer Series Paper, in 6 different patterns.  All of the paper is double-sided, for maximum flexibility in making the ornaments just the way you want!  There is enough paper to make 54 stars, 6 paper-strip globes, and 5 to 25 paper circle globes (depending on how large you make the globes).  There are also 12 Styled Silver brads (to help in making those paper-strip globes, and ten yards of Silver elastic cord for hanging these beauties.

Call (808.854.6145) or e-mail me to register for the class.  Or order the Star Bright Kit any time of the day or night on my Stampin’ Up! website!

Country Living Holidays Issue

Aloha, all!

I finally have my hands on my new issue of Country Living Magazine!  Finally I get to see all the wonderful projects that Stampin’ Up! is showing off in this super issue!

The first thing that I noticed was that I couldn’t FIND the Stampin’ Up! article!  In a "duh!" moment, I read the note that I should turn the magazine over and upside down and look at the BACK COVER for the Special Holidays section.

The Stampin’ Up! Holiday Collection is featured from Pages 7A through 15A.  You, too, can make all the wonderful projects shown by ordering the Holiday Collection Stampin’ Kit, right now–whenever you’re reading this!–by going to my Stampin’ Up! website and ordering product #114447

Ordering this kit by November 30th qualifies you for my November Special–a mini-folded album and a set of instructions for making the album – a $15 value gift for FREE!  This is a great Holiday gift for family and friends, especially if you include photos of the gift recipient!

Besides the great Country Living promotion kit, Stampin’ Up! also has other ornament kits for sale this holiday season, and I’ve been enjoying making them.  Check in tomorrow for news about a class special that I’m featuring in December!

‘Til then–be sure to call (808.854.6145) or e-mail me if you have any questions or would like me to order something for you!
